Level 1 Award

This is the first step on the officiating ladder in competitive hockey i.e. local leagues etc. It is a national recognised qualification for active, qualified umpires. Non-active Level 1 Award umpires will not be featured on the active list of umpires. The maintenance and development of the Level 1 Award is primarily the responsibility of the Regional Associations. The aim therefore of Level 1 Award must is to provide all umpires with the knowledge, understanding and skills to pass the Level 1 Umpiring award and become a respected, effective and honest umpire.

The requirements are:

  1. To have attended a seminar on the rules and knowledge of hockey and the role of the umpire

  2. To have passed an oral test

  3. To have been watched by an "appointed member" of the Association

  4. To have been recommended by an "appointed member" for inclusion at this grade
