Umpires are eligible for selection to all national outdoor hockey competitions and are available to be nominated for international appointments.

The umpire will be required to successfully complete the following:

1. To have Umpired a senior or under 21 international match but not mixed

2. To have been watched by at least two members appointed by the National Appointments Committee either at a Senior or Under 21 International Match but not Mixed

3. To have successfully completed an the FIH Umpires fitness test to the minimum level

4. The umpire will be a currently active Level 3 Award and officiating at the highest level available

5. To be recommended by the National Appointments Committee for upgrading
